one of the most satisfying singing experiences of my life learning this bit with Russell; we all excelled ourselves and amazed ourselves!

Although our dark career Sometimes involves the crime of stealing, We rather think that we’re Not altogether void of feeling. Although we live by strife, We’re always sorry to begin it, For what, we ask, is life Without a touch of Poetry in it?

‘Hail Poetry’ was one of the hardest pieces of music I have had to learn to date!! The end result was EPIC!! Also.. Nicki… FYI… that’s me on the far right! In the orange dress… with the same face as the last photo.. and the same face I have today… 😉

I remember Russell teaching Stewart and I fencing for the opening

My favourite musical!

Love the stance Warren ha ha !

So much time and hard work went in to this - but it was totally worth it!

My granddaughter Casey did the choreography and was the white cat. 💕

It was fabulous had seen the Australian production twice over previous years and you guys did an amazing job. Same with Phantom of the Opera that was brilliant we took friends along who hadn’t lived in Whyalla very long so they had never been to a Players show, they couldn’t believe it was a local theatre group that they just watched.

Great performance. Well done

Look at all those jellicle cats! Needed a lot of cat nip during that production..

My first show, it was amazing and the start of some fabulous friendships!! I still don’t know what song comes next, do you Kylie?!?!?

Joy! Brilliant performance by all xxx

It looks sensational!

I travelled from Adelaide to see this one. T’was a goodie

Gosh! So long ago!!

So much Lycra! 😳 Good job costuming team!! 😍

Recently the Whyalla Players Committee had the pleasure of awarding Whyalla Scaffolding the 2021 Services To Theatre Award.

The award is given by the Committee in recognition of, what we deem to be, outstanding service to theatre.

Darryl Durdin has provided scaffolding as a base for our sets for Little Shop of Horrors, Three Musketeers, and, more recently, Beauty and the Beast and Mamma Mia!

Darryl’s generous donations of scaffolding, as well as staff hours to erect and dismantle, has meant that we have been able to maximise our performance budgets and get the most out of the limited funds we have available. There is no doubt that without his generous donations, our musicals would not have been as successful as they were!

Community partnerships are very important to the Whyalla Players and are integral to the success of the Arts in our community.
We value the relationship we have formed with Whyalla Scaffolding and are pleased to present the award in recognition of it!

Yep. It was in the College Theatre. I remember it well, especially the ‘religious’ protesters outside the theatre who condemned us to the fire pits of hell for having the audacity to perform the show. It wasn’t performed “in the round” however.

A full band, I think. No radio mics back then either. Not a great theatre to work in. But a fantastic space. So versatile . Many a good cast party held.

Yes, Jo, and ruffling Grahame Eaton’s hair (?) as you worked the crowd in the aisles! Many cherished memories of that production.

It was produced in College Theatre. My late wife Sally Rodda was musical director and I sang in the backing group, the 'bgs". Julia Morris designed the stage and brought in scaffolding, which was a new thing at the time. Awesome show

I’m more concerned with why that woman on the right forgot her pants… 🤔 Maybe her quick change was too quick?! 🤣 (I’m joking, I realise you wore leotards in the 80s.)

College Theatre in the round.

I remember going to watch this performance… I was a student of Ray Estall at the time …

Loved this show

Would it be in the old institute hall or the Tafe theatre

I think it was in the Tafe stage in the round

Was it the College Theatre?

It’s THROW BACK THURSDAY again.

The date is a clear give away in this photo. But can you name the two actors and what show it was?

Recognised those two Warren and Brian

Oz Biz Murders. Warren at the front. Wanna say Brian Sweeting bringing up the rear?

Can’t remember the name of the dummy on the stretcher….

Oh gosh - now that’s stretching the memory!

Michelle Gidget this was one of your photos 😃

~THROW BACK THURSDAY ~

This cast photo was taken for the program of a Musical. Can you name that Musical?

Do you know the year the Musical was performed by the Whyalla Players?

Start tagging people in the photo 🙂

Oh such wonderful memories here! Am I allowed to name it???? Or can I just say the playing the role of Annie is still one of my favourite highlights of my musical career!

i recognise lots of them, and quite a few no longer with us unfortunately! Great show,

Oh the memories! Mother and son in this one ( last one before he went west).

I, surprisingly, recognise 5 or 6 faces in there! Neva, Glen, Stewart, Val, Nick, Wal… then a few faces I recognise but can’t pick 30years older now… 😜 Love it!

OMG. I had to look hard to recognise me. I don’t think I was in that one. I reckon I choreographed it. See Peter Shandley among all the other faces already mentioned. Such lovely memories of all these folks.

It’s “THROW BACK THURSDAY”

Welcome to our first “Throw back Thursday” post. An idea from our President Kylie Tonkin to bring back some memories of our past productions and hopefully encourage some good interaction with our members and followers.

Todays memory is of our first ever Pantomime ”Santa in Space” which was performed in 1992.

Keep an eye out for upcoming information about this year’s Pantomime. There will be opportunities to audition as well as being involved behind the scenes.
